GROUNDED IN NATURE, DESIGNED FOR COMMUNITY

OUR STORY

Kawalu began with a simple intention — to bring people back to something older and simpler than modern wellness. Heat, cold, breath and stillness, shared by the water.

We believe wellbeing isn't found in isolation. It's found in community, in ritual and in nature — and it's better when it's shared. That belief shapes everything we do.

Inspired by the coastal landscape of Port Stephens, Kawalu blends the ancient tradition of sauna with the wild calm of the ocean. Each session is more than heat. It's a chance to slow down, breathe out and reconnect — with the elements, with the people beside you and with yourself.

Kawalu is for locals and explorers, swimmers and surfers, early risers and after-work unwinders — anyone seeking a moment of balance by the sea. You don't need to earn a sauna. You just need to turn up.

OUR PURPOSE & PHILOSOPHY

We create space

Space to slow down, breathe out and be present — on your own or alongside others. Our sessions are communal by design, so you arrive with friends or leave with new ones. This is a place to gather, not to escape to alone.

Nature leads the way

Our saunas sit in the open air, by the bay and the ocean. We follow the season, the light and the tide rather than working against them, so no two sessions feel the same and each one keeps you connected to the coast around you.

Flexible options for everyone

Everyone's welcome here, first-timers most of all. Casual sessions, simple memberships and no barrier to walking in — because wellbeing shouldn't be something you qualify for, but something the whole community can share.

WHY KAWALU

  • Shared, not exclusive

Sauna doesn't have to be a solo pursuit behind a closed door. Our sessions are communal by design; you'll share the heat with a few friends and a few faces you're about to meet. Some sessions hum with quiet conversation, others are silent by choice. Either way, you arrive with people or leave with new ones. You don't need to earn a sauna. You just need to turn up.

  • By the water

This is sauna the way it's meant to be felt — outdoors, by the bay and the ocean, with the sea on the breeze and the light shifting across the water. Every session is shaped by the season, the weather and the tide, so no two ever feel quite the same. Step out from the heat into the open air and you're not in a windowless room. You're in the middle of it all.

  • Open to all

We built Kawalu to be easy to walk into. Casual sessions are capped at $25, there's no membership to join and no experience required. Come once because you're curious, or fold it into your week as a habit — it's yours either way. Wellbeing shouldn't be something you have to qualify for, and here, it isn't.

  • Local and family-run

Kawalu is made by people from here, for the community around it. We're not a chain rolling into town — we're locals who wanted a warm, welcoming place to gather by the water, and built the thing we wished already existed. When you visit, you're supporting something that belongs to Port Stephens as much as it belongs to us.
